Kimberly is a Teen trapped in a 72-year-old elderly lady, and a teen that has decided to live every day as if its the last. Following having a talk with a friend, And getting the answer “she’s amazing—she’s like this little old woman trapped in a baby’s body”, David Lindsay-Abaire thought of "Kimberly Akimbo" for the first time.
Kimberly Akimbo is a performance that presented Off-Broadway at the Manhattan Theatre Club New York City on February 4, 2003. Starred by Victoria Clark, and Directed by Jessica Stone, often celebrated for his ablity for uniting humor and brutal reality.
The story took place in 1999 in suburban New Jersey, a girl called Kimberly was born with a disorder that made her 4.5x more than she actually is. Put in an difficult reality to experience mortality and adolescence at the same time.
Unlike the rare clinical condition, she is facing, Kimberly is rarely seen taken care of in her life, in fact, you will see her compassionately consumed by her family’s recklessly, which puts her in various emotional pressures including psychological strain, financial troubles, social isolation, and the need for belongingness. Highlighting her resilience, empathy, determination, courage, and managing to keep her high spirits.
